Bree Runway: The pop star we've been waiting on.
Bree, I've been waiting on somebody like you.
I’ve spent this entire week listening to all of Bree Runway’s projects, and I have one question: What the heck took me so long?
I know not everyone on the subscriber list is a pop fan like me (you should fix that btw) but, Bree Runway is simply THAT girl for my fellow pop girlies and she will not be put in a box.
The Music
The provocative Bree Runway is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter (East London, to be exact) of Ghanaian descent and she’s taking the pop and rap world by storm. She’s worked with the legend, Missy Elliot, and many others like Rico Nasty, Baby Tate, and many more. Bree best describes her music as “genre-bending” and I can see why. She’s incorporated sounds like rap, rock, R&B, and pop. She literally does it all.
While looking for my top picks of hers, I simply couldn’t choose. Everything is alluring. Bree has one album, 2000AND4EVA, and two EPs, Woah, What a Blur! and Be Runway. She also has several singles under her belt as well. Bree brings a certain confidence and self-assurance to all of her tracks that is extremely captivating.
In an interview with The Fader, Bree says, “I just want to be everything God has made me be in its full entirety. I don’t want to hold back. I can be quite shy sometimes, like, “Is this too cocky? Is this too arrogant?” But it’s not arrogant if you’re living it.”
The Visuals
Bree’s videos make me actually excited about music videos. The last artist to really make me excited like this was Doja Cat and we see how successful she became. Bree’s videos have several millions of views and she’s gone viral multiple times. She has mentioned growing up in the age of watching MTV where artists like Britney Spears and Janet Jackson always brought exquisite star power to their artistry and you can see that reflected in Bree’s work.
She also is credited for directing and creative directing most of her videos herself as well. I encourage you to take the time to browse through some of her videos, the concepts are there. The looks are there and the creativity is THERE.

The Performances
Bree Runway - Somebody Like You (Orchestral Version)
If you don’t watch any of the links I’ve shared today, please watch the one above this. Somebody Like You was a single released last year, but the orchestral version blew up online.
Bree makes it a point to show her charisma while she’s on stage. It’s fun to watch her theatrical performances that show she and her team put a lot of thought into it. Bree’s star power commands the audience to pay attention and every single one of her performances are so magnetic.
She reminds me of Lady Gaga in a way, when it comes to her performances. Each performance is so creative, eclectic, and high energy. Which is appropriate, because Bree credits Lady Gaga as one of her biggest artistic inspirations.
So, as we’ve observed, Bree is obviously a student of the 90s and early 2000s pop/hip-hop culture. She’s a musical experimenter and rising fashion icon. I am elated to continue to watch her quest for mainstream success, because she’s well on her way.
